Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.
There are many methodologies circulating regarding studying for entrance exams. Some say that this is the best food, some say that night is better than morning, some say that the living room is better than the study room, some say that problem book B is better than problem book A, and so on. The truth is, though, "it doesn't matter.
Any instructor who continues with the above argument has never seriously studied for an entrance exam. Those who have seriously studied for the exam don't waste their time and energy on such trivial discussions. Food, time, place, and problem sets are not directly related to pass/fail.
I have had the privilege of guiding successful applicants to Kyoto University for 10 consecutive years. There were also four who passed the medical course at the Faculty of Medicine. The study method of those excellent children is extremely simple. They "just practiced past papers over and over again."
Students who were preoccupied with unimportant discussions failed at a much higher rate. This is a strict fact.
