　日本にも「下手な考え休みに似たり」というのがある。実力のない人、その道にくわしくない人がいくら考えても大したことは思いつかないので休んでいるのと同じようなもの、という意味です。

　勉強にも同じことが言えます。落ちる子は「朝型が夜型よりいいらしい」「休み時間にチョコを食べるといいらしい」「A問題集はB問題集よりいいらしい」「P塾がS塾よりいいらしい」と限りなく“下手な考え”に熱中する。

　そんな時間があったら数学の問題を1問解け！

　他塾から移ってきた子に

「この問題をやってみて」

　と言ったら、問題の横に解答を置いて読みだした。それは、入力というのであって出力とは違う。講師の解説を聞いたり、参考書の解説を読むのは「解く」とは言わない。

　注意をしたら

「ボクの勉強方法を否定するのですね！前の塾ではこう教わりました！！」

　と言う。面倒くさいので放置した。学園ドラマなら叱咤激励して間違いを修正してやるのだろうけど、現実はそんなに甘くない。修正しているうちにライバルは遥かかなたに進むので永久に追いつけないのが現実。自分で汗をかいてやってみない者には合格のチャンスは永久に来ない。

　In Japan, there is a saying, "It is like taking a rest for a bad idea. It means that no matter how much a person who is not good at what he or she does, he or she cannot come up with anything significant, so it is just like taking a break.

　The same can be said for studying. The students who fail are absorbed in endless "bad ideas" such as "morning is better than night," "eating chocolate during breaks is good," "problem book A is better than problem book B," and "P cram school is better than S cram school.

　If you have time for that, solve one math problem!

　A student who has moved from another school.
I said to him, "Try this problem.”

　He put the answer next to the problem and started to read it. That is called input, not output. Listening to an instructor's explanation or reading an explanation in a reference book is not called "solving.”

　When I gave him a warning.

He said, "Are you saying that my way of studying is meaningless? This is what I was taught at my previous cram school!”

　

　 It was too much trouble, so I left him alone. If it were a school drama, I would have given him a pep talk and corrected his mistakes, but the reality is not so sweet. While I was correcting him, his rivals were moving far away from him, so he could never catch up with them. Those who do not sweat and try by themselves will never have a chance to pass the exam.
