Frustrated Jimmy White throws cue after being dumped out of Snooker Shoot Out

Jimmy White's Snooker Shoot Out campaign ended in agonising fashion as he missed an easy blue to let opponent Zak Surety clean up and dump him out of the competition

Jimmy White threw his cue on the table in disgust during his Snooker Shoot Out defeat.

The Whirlwind missed a straightforward blue to allow Zak Surety to sweep up and win their round one clash in Swansea on Wednesday. White, 61, had missed a routine red minutes earlier, and frustration clearly got the better of him as he tossed his cue into the centre of the table amid a chorus of sympathetic groans.

He was trailing 43-57 at the time, but had the chance to turn things around with the pink and black still in play. But the blue clipped the edge of the middle pocket and skewed off down the table, giving Surety an easy shot to wrap up the game.

Fans on social media were completely baffled by White's miss. One X user commented: "That is an absolutely shocking gaffe by Jimmy White."

Another wrote: "Got to feel for Jimmy there. Such a routine shot. How did he miss?" A third added: "Jimmy White not at his best today, and that shot just sums it all up."

Once ranked second in the world, White is a former UK Snooker Champion and a six-time World Championship finalist. He appeared in five finals in a row between 1990 and 1994, but failed to win any of them.

He's also never won Snooker Shoot Out, a competition launched in 2011 which players against each other in a 10-minute one-frame match-up, with a shot clock operating throughout. Shaun Murphy hit the first maximum break in tournament history during his first round victory over Bulcsu Revesz on Thursday.
