Title: Clear, concise, easily readable-simplifies what can be a daunting task-excellent guide

Review: What a great guide for getting one's thoughts in order. In her easily readable, first out of the gate book, Prior draws on her extensive experience working in financial roles in companies of every size and breaks down the issues and tasks to help business owners evaluate and pull together a plan to have their financials tell their stories in ways that are meaningful and valuable. When it is time to cross that threshold and embrace the assistance of more sophisticated record keeping, this makes doing so approachable. There are many applications for the lessons within and it is worth a read for anyone who wants a better understanding of how to embrace the "story". Bravo! Looking forward to what comes next.

Review: I actually consider myself very versed in accounting. In my 20s, I was the controller for a chain of restaurants and in my 30s, I was the finance director for an international non-profit. So you’d think, in my 40s, running my own small business, I’d have my financial systems all organized and efficient. WRONG! We all know the story about the cobbler with worn down heels.

Reading this book was my first step in getting organized! And it was so incredibly helpful. I now have hope that I can run my own numbers with the same efficacy as I once ran much larger organization’s numbers.

Title: Don’t be fooled by the ratings. Useless “book”

Review: This infirmation in this little book could have been written on a double sided 8x11 paper. I was douped by the great reviews. As you can see, all the perfect reviews were written at the same time. Very fishy to say the least. I’m suprized Amazon has not figured out the deception here. I do not recommend this “pamphlet” to anyone unless you are trying to hire the authors services which are hinted at throughout the book. I would give it zero stars but you have to give at least one so what can I do. Buyer beware.

Review: Finally! A financial management book that I can recommend to my clients without hesitation. Pam Prior’s Your First CFO tackles one of the most beguiling tasks for entrepreneurs – how to successfully manage business financials and the people who provide them. Like Nathalie, the fictional client in Your First CFO, many owners intuitively know every detail of their business except how the financial statements work together and create a roadmap for improvement and success. Well-written and easy to understand, this book gives any CEO the tools needed to make smart decisions whether they are hiring a part-time bookkeeper or full-time CFO.

Title: A useful and stress-free financial primer.

Review: Ms. Prior does the impossible, relating all the moving parts of business finances to each other and to the business's overall strategy in a way that is clear and easy to follow.

As the head of an arts-related business, I generally regard financial materials as a necessary evil and a source of high anxiety. Even instructional materials generally create more anxiety than they alleviate as I wrestle with the gulf between how my business "should" be managing its finances and what my resources actually allow for.

This book is a quick read and a revelation. Even by the end of the first chapter, Ms. Prior helped me to see in simple and concrete ways how to align my accounting process with my business model. With each chapter, the particularized steps for getting the most out of the process become increasingly more focused. Following the steps outlined in this book has done more to relieve my anxiety about my company's numbers than any other resource I've used.

I can't recommend this book more highly for heads of every type of business.

Title: Clear, concise accounting guide for small business owners

Review: As a former accounting professor, CPA and current nonprofit board member, I found this book fills an important need for business owners and presidents. The CEO needs to understand the finances of the business. This books gives clear, easy to understand explanations of the accounts and the statements in non-technical language. As Ms. Prior points out, cash is king as she explains how to figure out the relationship between profit and cash flow. I also think her explanation of the different accounting roles to be very helpful and will help the business owner figure out what he or she needsl. She explains how the CFO needs to be someone that the CEO has total trust in. There is a reason so many CEOs, when changing jobs, take their CFOs with them. Though nonprofit executive directors will also benefit from this book, I hope that Ms. Prior writs a sequel to this, focusing on nonprofits.

Title: A Cure For Financial Phobia

Review: As a hardcore right brainer, I would do everything possible to avoid financial discussions and the only thing I wanted to know about accounting was how many minutes I'd be a-counting until I could move on to a different topic. But that's not a very healthy attitude if you want to climb the corporate ladder or eventually embrace your entrepreneurial spirit. In fact, a healthy dose of financial management fear is one of the things that has always prevented me from hanging out my own shingle. By combining classic story telling with earned insights and an obvious expertise in her craft, this author has given me renewed hope and rekindled the flame. Not only do I feel like I have a seasoned CFO on my side, I have a business mentor. I hope she continues to share her experience in this unique style.
