Every year nearly a quarter of a million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Title: Must read before prostate surgery!!

Review: My husband will likely have this surgery in the next four months. This book was an informative eye-opening book, for my husband and myself. Even though our surgeon gave a thorough explanation of the procedure and what to expect, he recommended reading this book before making a final decision on how to proceed.
This book gave us both an honest account /insight of someone who has went through the surgery and postop effects of a prostatectomy. This book was a humorous yet honest account of what to expect during this journey. Our urologist recommended this book, and both my husband are grateful he did. Expect straightforward and laugh out loud answers, to real concerns!

Title: Excellent read!

Review: A wonderful, informative, book. For such a common diagnosis, it was somewhat surprising to realize how little I knew about prostate cancer. The entirety of my previous knowledge amounted to a scattering of forgotten pamphlets combined with vague recollections of my sixth grade sex ed. class. Perhaps other men can sympathize when I say I was not exactly looking forward to thinking about my prostate. Yet after only a few chapters, it was clear to me that this was an invaluable read.

The real strength of The LD Chronicles is Dr. Randall's ability to combine his background in medicine with his first-hand account as a patient. He defines the jargon in clear terms, covering a number of topics including anatomy, surgery options, and even post-surgery options for ED and incontinence. Whether speaking from knowledge or personal experience, Dr. Randall has a style of writing that is thorough but very straightforward - and often very funny! His humor and frankness about sensitive areas (e.g. "the leaking male self-image") make the somewhat-dreaded descriptions of post-surgery complications easier to swallow.

I'd recommend this book not just to patients, but also to anyone (like me) who has put off thinking about their prostate health.

Title: This Book = Awesome (Even for Daughters!)

Review: This is essential reading for anyone who's had prostate cancer touch their life - the daughters included. And Brad Randall doesn't mess around. You'll appreciate his candor, his humor, his humanity, his awesomely bad puns and love of acronyms, and perhaps most valuable to the subject matter, the VIP perspective (and confessions) he has as a medical doctor (he did, after all, put his very own prostate on the cover of the book). It's part doc, part dad, and part dude...and there's something in there for each of us. Randall's realness seeps through the pages and creates concrete imagery punctuated by a strong message: that cancer is real, it can affect anyone, and treatment and recovery suck, but if you're lucky, life goes on. In the process, you'll laugh, you'll frown, you'll wince, you'll feel totally awkward, but you'll enjoy the ride. Falling somewhere between no BS and TMI, Randall's approach is refreshingly honest and sex-positive, and precisely what's needed when taking on this often hush-hush world. Grab yourself a stiffy (See? It's infectious!)and buckle in for an absolute treasure you'll wish you read sooner!

Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. There is no shortage of information, mainly online, about prostate cancer, but this was a really unique, succinct (only about 80 pages) testimony. This book lays it all out, in frank language with excellent medical references anyone can understand, what to expect when you are facing a prostatectomy. It answers the questions men are afraid to ask, once the fear of cancer is addressed (namely, what happens before, during and most importantly, after the surgery)? Not only does the author have a physician's perspective, his frank personal account of the physical and sexual challenges makes this a must read for any man (or partner of that man) facing this treatment. Socially taboo topics are dealt with in a sensitive manner that even the more squeamish reader will appreciate. The book is kept short, and the narrative is punctuated by italicized medical information and occasional pictures. Rarely have I been so entertained by someone else's unfortunate situation, and I was a little shy reading it in public but wish I could give away 50 copies to people I know who could benefit from this information. Kudos to the author (and especially his wife)!

Review: If you have a prostate, or know someone with a prostate, you should seriously consider reading this book. Brad Randall has the succeeded with the LD chronicles to cut straight to the important issues in the diagnosis and treatment of a relatively common but serious condition and to present these in a clear and honest way. Despite the personal angle, his story is told openly and transparently; and I applaud the stand he took against his condition and the determination with which he and his family tackled what must have been a difficult journey. The perfect combination of humour and fact makes this a very enjoyable and informative read indeed. LLAP, CR.

Title: Dear Sainted Wives

Review: Using terms like DSW you realize that this book is going to be a joy to read with just enough humor to take the edge off a very serious situation. Brad informs and enlightens the reader with exactly how this whole process of dealing with prostate cancer transpires. After you have read this book there are no unanswered questions. Having the medical background and the human insight as to how this feels from both sides of the operating table makes The LD Chronicles a very realistic book as well as a very personal experience. I enjoyed learning how this frightful cancer can be dealt with but hope I never have to experience it myself. I now know what to expect from start to finish Thanks to Brad's clear and informative book.
